There are are two ways to interpret this painting.
1) The woman has learned how to self nurture so as she continues her journey into the unknown (consciousness), she is able to care and look after her inner child.
OR
2) There is a part of this woman that regrets her decision and she isn't sure if she can continue on her journey as she is too scared. However, you can't un-see what you have seen so the journey carries on anyways and her dark feminine completely encompasses her.
